West Seneca West, Lancaster Football Honor Perillo in Alumni Night Game

West Seneca West?s football program takes pride in recognizing some of its most memorable alumni each fall.? But one special honoree is selected for recognition at the annual Alumni Night game.

West Senior will honor Matt Perillo at this year?s Alumni Night, set for Friday, Sept. 7, when West?s Indians take on the Lancaster Redskins. Perillo, a 1983 West graduate, was a high school football and basketball official for Section VI prior to having his lower legs amputated after he became ill with septicemia, a blood disease caused by bacteria.

Now a Lancaster resident, Perillo was an easy choice as this year?s Alumni Night honoree, according to West varsity football coach Joe Cantafio.

??Matt was without a doubt one of the best officials in Section VI in my mind,? Cantafio said. ?He truly is a great inspiration, and I can?t think of a better alumnus to dedicate this year?s Alumni Night to.?

Members of both teams will be wearing special ?Matt Perillo Night? T-shirts before the game, and money will be collected to be donated to the Matt Perillo Fund to help offset the costs of Perillo?s treatment.

Perillo will be honored in a brief ceremony immediately before the game, which is scheduled for 7 p.m. at West Seneca West High School, 3330 Seneca St., West Seneca. Photo opportunities will be available.

For more information, contact Cantafio at 677-3350, ext.? 4277, or jcantafio@wscschools.org.
